Merry Christmas to you all - that's right, I said MERRY CHRISTMAS! If that offends you, you are obviously on the wrong blog. I heard that Barbara Walters questioned the Christmas card that she received from the White House because it contained a Bible verse. She wondered aloud if Jews and Muslims received the same card? The last time I checked, Christmas was a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Christ. Barbara, I don't think Jews or Muslims celebrate unless they own a retail outlet and the sales are brisk. This is still a country based on Christian values and traditions - even if it is fading before our eyes. Lighten up Walters.
Now for my wishes!
My wish for Mike Sodrel - Lots and lots of campaign contributions to help get that message out. The do nothing congress finally did something. They once again intruded upon our freedoms to make choices for ourselves and our families by mandating higher costs for transportation and likely less safe vehicles by upping the mileage standards. Hey Congress, cars already exist that get 35 miles per gallon - we can buy them if we want to, not because we have to. Call me Mike, I have some great ideas for this upcoming fight.
My wish for Mike Huckabee - Thick Skin. Welcome to the lead Mr. Huckabee, where everyone will shoot you in the back. Take joy in the barbs for they will sharpen your skills for your Fall 08 showdown with the Clinton attack dogs. Chin up, chest out, running shoes on!
My wish for all you middle America conservatives - Stamina! We know who we are, we know what we stand for, we know we are the spine of this nation - we are the real America. Be relentless - tell everyone you know what is important in this election. Do not let up, even if it looks promising for the right. Let's renew our commitment to changing America for the better, from local to national. We formed it, now let's take it back.
Jeff Foxworthy made this comment on the CMA show this year about folks like us, "we get up and go to work, we get up and go to church and we get up and go to war if we are asked to." AMEN

Will the real Conservative please stand up?

Congratulations to Mitt Romney on pulling off a very tricky speech on religion. The speech writer is great. He should be employed by our next president. Now to the content - Romney wants us all to put his religion aside and focus on his ideas. Now we all know that this speech was put out there for one reason - Mike Huckabee! It seems that the evangelical wing has rallied behind Huckabee and pushed him to a national lead in some polls. Romney saw no choice but to explain the foundations of his faith and try to recapture the number he has lost. It comes down to these two for conservative Christians. We don't have to settle for a man that created a sanctuary city, marched in gay pride parades and has lived his private life so thoughtless that his children are estranged from him. Romney claims that his religion is based on Jesus Christ as savior and that is what matters most. I tend to agree. More important though is the evangelical movement making their voices heard. We are not the toothless, gun rack, snake handling crowd. We are bright, deep seated in our faith and now we are loud. We know what we want in a candidate and are not going to settle for a middle of the road RINO. Maybe the third party should be called the Conservative party!

Can Huckabee win Iowa? Rudy is betting on it!

Don't look now conservatives, but one poll has Mike Huckabee only two points behind front runner Mitt Romney in the Iowa's Republican Caucus. Huckabee has been coming on strong as of late as true conservatives look for someone that shares their core views. The biggest cheerleader for Huckabee now is Rudy Guiliani. Rudy knows that Iowa is not his kind of state and has spent little time campaigning there. On the other hand, Romney has bet the farm on Iowa and New Hampshire and any loss in one of these two states might be detrimental to his hopes of being president. That suits Rudy just fine. Huckabee knocking off Romney in Iowa is a dream scenario for the Guiliani and Thompson campaigns. Fred Thompson got in the race a little too late to make significant noise in Iowa.
My words of advice to the Guiliani camp - Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. If Huckabee wins Iowa and shows well in New Hampshire, real conservatives might wake from their slumber and jump on Huckabee's Stop Hillary Express. Still the question that pundits will throw out there is this. Is Huckabee electable in the general election next November? The polls show that Rudy can beat her, but are conservatives willing to compromise their platform? I say he is electable. Throw out the elite coastal areas and sell it to the real America. If that fails, look forward to a Guiliani/Huckabee ticket. That combination suits me fine.

Now, study the faces in this photo. You have Baron, looking like he is trying to find an escape route after the President scolded him and his commrades for their spending bills. Now scan to the left a little and you will see Mike Sodrel checking out Baron's reaction. Hum, wonder what he is saying to himself? Maybe, "look out Blue Baron, I'm coming after you." Yellow Dog UAW

Did anyone catch the full page ad in the A section of the Courier-Journal today? Right there on page A5 is a big waste of money that thanks Congressman Baron Hill from the ninth district of Indiana for supporting higher fuel mileage standards. Here is the kicker - it is endorsed and in part paid for by the UAW! Isn't this a little like a hen supporting Colonel Sanders? This ad states the legislation "will enhance our energy security, protect jobs in Indiana and preserve vehicle choice." HUH? It will precisely do none of the three. Energy security will be achieved by new technology. Until that technology is available, we need to utilize our own oil that is under our own ground. With the environmentalist wing lining the pockets of the Democrat party, any chance of bringing it up to relieve pressure from foreign markets is slim. Second, this legislation does not protect jobs anywhere. Someone please tell me how added restrictions and regulations helps to expand an economy? Indiana has a Navistar plant that produces not so efficient diesel engines for one of the Ford plants in Louisville where many Hoosiers work. I figure that more restrictions = higher costs = less produced = fewer jobs. Finally, the ad says the bill will preserve vehicle choice. If the legislation keeps it up at this pace, the only choice you will have will be between a Prius and a moped. The government once again feels that we cannot make decisions for ourselves. Why don't we just let the consumers and the market figure this one out?
Now it makes me wonder what Baron Hill has done for the UAW? Why else would they endorse this plan? Aren't the big three in Detroit in bad enough shape as it is?
Ah but I am reminded that the UAW would endorse even a yellow dog so long as he was a Democrat!
